WHAT I’M WATCHING:
NYSE vs Nasdaq on tokenization design
Big names dropped into new markets can cause ripples that unexpectedly reveal much about current market structure. We’re seeing this play out in the different tokenization approaches of two of the world’s largest equity platforms.
Last week, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), owner of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), announced that the world’s largest equities venue is developing a tokenized stock trading platform, with onchain trading and settlement. Launch is expected later this year, subject to regulatory approval. The venue, which will operate separately from the main exchange, will combine its current matching engine with a blockchain layer (the statement mentions “multiple chains”, I’m not sure what that means).
